Case Study: Re-design Indonesia Health Alert Card (eHAC) Application
A collaboration project from a UI/UX Design Bootcamp at Binar Academy, the team:
Mia Pitria: Product Owner | Dina Febrianti Krisna: Scrum Master | Hazwo: UI/UX Designer | Afri Mimo: UI/UX Designer | Archela Neysa: UI/UX Designer
My role is no different with other team mates, but maybe if I can make it more specific on the role, is I need to make a decision if there are more than one choices on each solution, feature or design that we did on this product.
Amidst the global pandemic situation, Indonesian Government has a policy for people who travel in Indonesia, they are required to report and record their journey as a tracing protocol through a mobile application or website called Indonesia Health Alert Card (eHAC).
I used the eHAC application a number of times during business trips, and personally, I found it a bit challenging to navigate around. I was wondering if I could make a better version of the application.
My team and I then conducted further perusal. We tried it and listed several weaknesses of the existing design application and accordingly try to find the right solutions.
After we had a list of problems, we stepped into the Sprint timeline, where we determine a timeline of process. We split the Sprint into two, where each Sprint duration is one week. By the end of each Sprint, we’d conducted a review and retrospective, to make sure that we’re on track.
Our scrum master, Dina Febrianti Krisna, updated all our activities on Trello, so we can track our progress and see if we are still on track.
Understanding
Indonesian Government has create an application where it can trace travelers who travel within Indonesia during pandemic situation, especially who travel using a mass transportation such as an airplane, so that government can stop the spreading of COVID-19.
Our early hypothesis is:
“New User having some trouble on getting eHAC, because the form itself is hard to find.”
Based on this hypothesis, we managed to have an in-depth interview with some of the existing user, to validate our hypothesis.
Criteria participants:
1. 20–40 yo.
2. Employee.
3. Travel in the past three months.
Objectives:
1. Understanding their experience on using eHAC app.
2. Understanding their difficulties using eHAC app.

Define
Problem Statement
Based on the in-depth interview, next step is define Problem Statement, User Persona, Customer Journey Maps & How Might We (HMW):
Problem Statement:
An employee who travel need eHAC application as one of the requirement to go traveling in this pandemic situation because the Indonesian Govt have a policy to fill the eHAC form when someone wants to travel in Indonesia. The lack of information on how to use the app, finds user confused, especially for new user.
User Persona & Customer Journey Maps
The goal for having a user persona is to know the characteristic, like, and frustration of our user.
Customer journey maps is user behavior when using the app.
HMW:
Value Proposition:
It’s eHAC for travelers who will travel during pandemic situation, to make it easier for them to report their trip using this application as one of the requirements they must take when travel.
So now we can define the main problem that user faced when using this application:
Diverge
Ideation
In this process we collected some solutions for HMW that we define before. We define each solution and do the mapping based on the similarity of each solution that team made.
Priority Matrix
All solutions are clustered, now we define each solution based on priority matrix. we will focus on high impact and low effort solution that we can create in this short time timeline.
Decide
Crazy 8
Based on priority matrix that we define, we decide to only re-design eHAC homepage mobile app.
Each member of the team start to design the look on the homepage, and then we vote on each feature that we like the most and use them for the final design.
Design
Virtual Strategy
Virtual Strategy is a guideline on what kind of application that we are going to create.
Prototype:
Validation
Now it’s time for us to test the prototype that we made before. This is to validate whether the solutions we made are solving user problem?
Usability Testing (UT) Plan
Hazwo, as our UT planner, formulated the UT plan:
UT Result

Conclusion
UT result says that the new design improving the time spend for user get their eHAC. The look of the new design is also becoming the highlight.
